Mass ECAN 2026 Field Trip Series

This year’s field trip series explores adaptation actions that have allowed access to nature! These trips are organized by Mass ECAN, the MA Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness Program, the MA Division of Ecological Restoration, and local project partners. Athol Field Trip

• Join us at the Mill Brook Crossing/Lord Pond Plaza in Athol! We’ll learn about innovative work in this commercial area to address stormwater flooding and heat through stream daylighting and restoration. We’ll also hear about the community support that made it possible to create new green space right in downtown. Afterwards, we’ll gather for an optional picnic and networking lunch.

Malden Field Trip

• Join us to visit a new park at the City of Malden’s Dept. of Public Works! We’ll explore green infrastructure to manage stormwater and heat, and updates that provide public access to the waterfront in a historically industrial area. Come learn from this exemplary community-led planning process that centered equity and inclusivity! Stick around for an optional picnic and networking lunch.

Framingham Field Trip

• Join us to learn about a wetlands and stream restoration project that improves flood resiliency in Framingham’s Walnut Street Neighborhood! We will explore an elevated boardwalk that provides a new accessible path connecting an environmental justice neighborhood to community amenities, including the local school. We will then carpool to nearby Simpson Park to visit a potential dam removal project. There will be an optional picnic and networking lunch afterwards.
